Macará faces disciplinary complaint amid strong Liga Ecuabet season
Macará de Ambato is experiencing a strong 2026 season in the Liga Ecuabet, currently holding second place in the standings with 48 points after 28 matches. The team, led by Guillermo Sanguinetti, has secured a spot in the main hexagonal phase to compete for 2027 Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana berths.
However, the club faces a disciplinary challenge after Manta FC filed a formal complaint with the LigaPro Disciplinary Committee. Manta FC alleges that Macará used an ineligible player, Néstor David Caicedo, during their recent 4-3 victory. The complaint claims Caicedo may have violated regulations by participating with two other clubs—Athletic Club in Brazil and Leones in Ecuador—during the same season prior to joining Macará. The committee will determine if the player's participation complied with current regulations; Macará currently retains the win pending the investigation.
