MACC suspends use of orange detainee clothing for remand proceedings

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has suspended the mandatory use of orange detainee clothing for Persons Under Investigation (OKS) being brought to court for remand applications, effective immediately.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman stated the decision follows recent developments and recommendations regarding the handling of OKS during court transfers. Under the new procedure, individuals are permitted to wear civilian clothing when being brought to court, while orange detainee attire will only be required while they are held in lockup. The use of handcuffs will also be subject to discretion, with exemptions for the elderly, children, and persons with disabilities.

The move follows comments from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who suggested that individuals cooperating with investigations should not be subjected to the negative public perception associated with wearing orange detainee clothing before any formal charges are filed. The political party PAS has expressed support for the decision, describing it as a positive step.
