Macedonia activates 'Safe City' traffic cameras in Debarca and Ohrid

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia announced that the "Safe City" traffic‑monitoring system has been placed into operation on the highway section between the villages of Gorenci and Trebenista in Debarca municipality. The cameras have completed final testing and now continuously record traffic, detecting violations such as speeding, red‑light running and driving with an expired registration.

Additional units of the system are installed on roads serving Ohrid and the surrounding region. Technical checks are in their final phase, and the authorities expect those cameras to become operational soon. Data from May 2026 show the system recorded 28,494 violations, the majority for speeding, indicating its role in improving road safety across North Macedonia.
