Macedonia government pushes environment reforms and water‑sewage upgrades

The administration of North Macedonia, led by the VMRO‑DPMNE party, is advancing a series of environmental reforms aimed at aligning national legislation with EU standards. Measures include simplifying 15 of 31 administrative procedures by 2026, launching a digital emissions registry, and investing in modern waste‑management infrastructure such as regional centres in Rusino, Novaci and St. Nikolé.

Significant capital projects are underway: a 376 million‑denar river‑regulation scheme on the Suva River, a 21 million‑denar water‑supply system in Lenishte, a 7 million‑denar water‑network replacement on Goce Delchev boulevard, a 91 million‑denar sewage system in Vranishte (funded by a Hungarian credit line), and a 70 million‑denar wastewater‑treatment plant in Cucher Sandevo. More than 300 infrastructure initiatives across the country are being financed to improve water, sewage and waste services and to support sustainable development.
