Macedonia handball federation bans last‑minute playoff sign‑ins as basketball talent shines at U18 Euro tournament
The Macedonian Handball Federation has introduced a new rule for the 2026/27 season that only players registered at the start of the season, before the spring phase, or who have played at least ten matches for the club may participate in promotion‑relegation play‑offs. The measure aims to prevent clubs from adding “instant” reinforcements solely for the decisive barrage match, promoting fair competition between teams that have competed throughout the season.
Separately, FIBA Europe has highlighted Macedonian guard Damjan Danev as one of ten young talents to watch at the U18 European Championship in Rijeka and Opatija, Croatia, from July 25 to August 3. Danev, noted for his height, wing span and defensive skills, is expected to be a key player for Macedonia as the national team seeks to return to Division A.
Both developments underscore efforts to strengthen Macedonian sport – tightening regulations in handball and showcasing emerging basketball talent on the European stage.
