Macedonia Health Minister Azir Aliu Announces €205 M Hospital Investment and Debt Cut

Health Minister Azir Aliu said a computer tomography (CT) scanner will be installed in the Strumica region next week, improving diagnostic access for local citizens. He noted that the Strumica hospital was inherited with a debt of more than 100 million denars and that better management has already reduced the liability by about 20 million denars, with further budget and functional stabilisation planned.

Aliu highlighted that a whole department of the Strumica hospital has been reconstructed and is now in the technical acceptance phase, soon to be opened to patients. He described the broader effort to strengthen regional health capacities, citing an investment programme of roughly €205 million for new or upgraded facilities in Štip, Kërčovë (Kratovo) and Tetovo.

The minister also referred to ongoing work on a national digital health transformation strategy, including the creation of a new data centre to secure patient information, and mentioned the modernisation of the oncology centre in Bitola (Manastir) to expand regional oncology services.
