Macedonia Justice System Criticized After 167 M€ Fuel Oil Case Halted

VMRO‑DPMNE MP Ljupcho Prendzhov sharply condemned the decision by prosecutor Islam Abazi to terminate the criminal proceeding concerning the purchase of fuel oil worth €167 million for the TEK Negotino power plant. Prendzhov said the move further eroded public confidence in the courts, which he estimates has fallen to near zero.

He warned that the aggrieved party, the Energy Services Company (ESM), is expected to file an appeal with the Higher Public Prosecutor to have the decision reviewed. Prendzhov accused the prosecutorial process of political interference and pledged that the case will return to the courts for a new hearing.

The MP urged continued institutional efforts to combat crime and corruption, emphasizing that justice must ultimately prevail in the Republic of Macedonia.
