Macedonia Oncology Drug Shortage Eased, Patients Seek Continuous Supply

A shortage of oncology medicines for breast and colorectal cancer patients in North Macedonia has been partially alleviated after a shipment arrived at the Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology, with the remaining supplies expected within two days. The patient association HEMA‑ONCO, together with the "Butterflies" support group, warned that intermittent deliveries have long plagued patients regardless of the governing party.

Ana Marjanović of HEMA‑ONCO stressed, "We do not ask for privileges, but timely and continuous therapy," and called for a national strategy on prevention, early detection and sustained drug availability, citing the EU "Beating Cancer" initiative. Deputy Health Minister Jovica Andovski met the groups, pledged that patients must be partners in improving the health system, noted a record increase in the oncology budget, and outlined steps to secure a reliable supply chain.

The association reiterated that any future shortage will be publicly reported and urged long‑term solutions beyond short‑term procurement fixes.
