Macedonia Opposition Leader Venco Filipche Warns of Election Fraud Risk in Proposed Mail Voting for Diaspora

Opposition president Venco Filipche accused the Macedonian government of opening the door to election theft by introducing mail voting for the diaspora. He argued that the amendment to the Election Law provides no mechanisms to verify the authenticity of mailed ballots and could allow a single individual to submit multiple votes.

Filipche highlighted that previous proposals for electronic voting were rejected as uncontrollable, and the current proposal—mail voting via letters—lacks safeguards. He questioned why the ruling VMRO‑DPMNE and Prime Minister Christian Mikoski would push changes that "open serious doubt that the elections, whenever they are held, could be stolen." Filipche said the opposition will not accept any electoral changes that compromise transparency and trust.
