Macedonia opposition SDSM accuses Marathon Group of €2 million public contracts linked to government secretary Igor Janš
The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) anti‑corruption team alleges that Marathon Group and its affiliate S.I.A. Media have obtained more than €2 million in state contracts since the VM‑RO‑DPMNE coalition came to power. Contracts cited include advertising for the State Lottery, State Video and bus advertising for JSC Skopje.
SDSM claims the firm’s rise is tied to Igor Janush‑ev, the current General Secretary of the government, who as director of JSC Skopje in 2017 signed a ten‑year marketing agreement that transferred the municipality’s advertising revenues to Marathon, whose owner Ljupcho Kostovski is a close associate. The party says the deals exemplify the extraction of public funds by businesses close to the ruling party and urges authorities to investigate.
