Christian Micic unveils government reconstruction and reform push in North Macedonia

Prime Minister Christian Micic said the judiciary is perceived as ineffective and called for a “clean‑up of all scandals” to restore public trust. He also accused Bulgaria of running an organised propaganda campaign against Macedonia and labelled the recent leak of a diplomatic note a “diplomatic scandal”.

Micic announced that the coalition’s shifting priorities will drive a reshuffle of ministries, saying reconstruction is not only based on past results but also on new partner agendas. He noted that the upcoming cabinet changes will be decided by the party’s executive committee before being formalised.

He highlighted the parallel construction of six motorways – including the Kičevo‑Ohrid, Bučinci‑Kičevo and Prilep‑Bitola sections – funded by domestic banks and Chinese lenders, with further financing to be sought on international markets.

Micic expressed confidence that Macedonia will be among the top‑ranked countries in the EU’s June reform assessment, expecting the finalisation of reform laws to unlock additional EU budget support and loans.

Overall, the Prime Minister presented the reconstruction as a means to consolidate the government, accelerate infrastructure projects and improve the country’s standing with the EU.
