Macedonia PM Mikovski Demands Resignation of Public Prosecutor Savski

SDSM general secretary Aleksandar Sasha Dimitrijević accused Prime Minister Christian Mikovski of directly dictating tasks to State Prosecutor Nenad Savski and demanding his immediate resignation. Dimitrijević claimed Mikovski warned that the prosecutor’s office would lose credibility if it did not obey, describing the move as political pressure that undermines the independence of the judiciary and blocks reforms such as the establishment of a European Public Prosecutor.

Savski later confirmed that Mikovski called him for the first time yesterday, saying the conversation did not cover any specific case details, including the fuel‑supply investigation at the Negotino power plant. The prosecutor’s office reiterated that the law guarantees the constitutional independence of public prosecutors and that any instructions must not threaten that autonomy.
