Macedonia presses for rights of its citizens in Bulgaria ahead of 2028 Council of Europe presidency

Macedonian Foreign Minister Timčo Mučunski said the government is continuously active on the issue of human rights for ethnic Macedonians living in Bulgaria. He emphasised that the matter is regularly raised in the Council of Europe, where Macedonia is preparing to assume the chairmanship in 2028, and urged the full implementation of European Court of Human Rights judgments concerning the minority.

Mučunski also outlined the preparations for the upcoming Council of Europe presidency, noting that the next year and a half will be used to coordinate priorities with past and future chair‑states and to present Macedonia’s agenda to other member states.

The minister reaffirmed Macedonia’s commitment to multilateral engagement and to ensuring that the rights of its diaspora are respected in line with international standards.
