Macedonia reports 28% airport traffic jump, 40% surge in tourists

In the first half of 2026 Macedonia’s main airports, Skopje and Ohrid, handled a total of 1,955,648 passengers – a 28% increase compared with the same period a year earlier. June alone saw 374,714 passengers, up 15.6% year‑on‑year, with Ohrid Airport recording 122,638 passengers, an 18.2% rise, while the number of flights grew by 26%.

The government attributes the lift to its tourism‑promotion measures, noting a 40% jump in foreign tourist arrivals highlighted in the World Bank’s June‑2026 “Tourism Watch” report. Premier Christian Mikovski said the surge will positively affect GDP and announced further investment in airline routes and tourism infrastructure.
