North Macedonia's electric bus tender sees four companies submit offers

Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said four companies have submitted bids for the re‑opened tender to purchase 150 electric buses and 75 charging stations for public transport in Skopje and other municipalities. The evaluation commission, made up of Ministry of Transport officials and experts from the Machine Faculty, will deliver its report on Monday, after which the winning supplier will be announced.

The buses must be red or white, provide at least 30 seats plus a driver’s seat, carry a minimum of 66 passengers, include a wheelchair space and a manually operated ramp. Charging stations must have at least 120 kW per connector, and the selected operator will be required to guarantee four years of service and maintenance.

Nikoloski stressed the importance of a successful outcome, saying, "I really hope this call will be successful and that we will have a successful procurement of the buses," and added, "I received information this morning that I will get the report on Monday. Four companies have applied."

The tender follows the cancellation of a previous award to a joint Hungarian‑Austrian bid. The estimated value of the vehicles and charging infrastructure exceeds three million denars (about €51 million).
