Macedonian airports see record passenger surge in July

Macedonia's Ochrid Airport handled 52,544 passengers in July, a 41.2% increase over the same month last year, and recorded a peak day of 22 flights on 20 July. Skopje International Airport served 408,925 passengers in the same month, up 29.5%, with a record 101 flights on 20 July. Together, the two airports processed about 2.42 million passengers from January through July, marking a 28.4% annual rise.

Government officials attribute the growth to policies that subsidise airlines and attract new routes. Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Alexander Nikoloski highlighted the “smart subsidy policy” and its impact on tourism and the broader economy. Nejat Kurt, CEO of TAV Macedonia, praised the continued expansion of airline networks and ongoing airport upgrades that support the rising demand.
