Macedonian Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski has announced an intensive modernization program for the Macedonian Army. Key components of this initiative include systemic reforms, improved working conditions, and a new collective agreement with unions.

Starting January 1, military personnel will receive salary increases funded by the new budget. Additionally, a new policy will address the status of professional soldiers reaching age 45, offering them the choice to remain in the Ministry of Defense, transition to other state institutions, or receive severance.

Regarding equipment, the Ministry is procuring eight helicopters from the Italian company Leonardo, with two expected to arrive by the end of this year. Misajlovski also highlighted the renovation of the pilot training center in Petrovec to bolster technical and pilot training capabilities. The Minister stated that there are currently no plans to reintroduce mandatory military service, noting that such a move is not required by NATO.
