Macedonian artists seek cultural partnerships with Japan

Macedonian artists and cultural organizations have an opportunity to collaborate with Japanese counterparts through a call issued by the EU–Japan Fest Japan Committee. The call, which remains open until September 30, supports joint cultural projects between Europe and Japan.

The initiative covers various artistic forms, including theater, music, visual arts, film, and interdisciplinary projects. Priority is given to themes involving youth, diversity, nature, green transformation, and the role of culture in social regeneration. Applicants must present a specific project idea alongside a Japanese partner, such as an artist or cultural institution.

Marjan Cvetkovski, director of the Skopje 2028 Foundation, noted that this is an opportunity for the Macedonian cultural scene to build long-term international professional partnerships ahead of Skopje serving as the European Capital of Culture in 2028. This program is part of broader European-Japanese cultural cooperation, similar to initiatives seen in Liepāja 2027 and Évora 2027.
