Macedonian Chief Prosecutor Nenad Saveski Defends Independence Amid 'Mazut' Case

Public Prosecutor Nenad Saveski said the independence of the prosecutor’s office is guaranteed by the Constitution and that a phone call from the prime minister does not threaten that autonomy. He reiterated his stance of not commenting on political statements and emphasized the need for inter‑institutional communication.

Saveski reported that the investigation of the "Mazut" matter has been transferred to the Higher Public Prosecutor in Skopje, where a decision is expected within the legally prescribed 30‑day deadline. He also noted that the probe into alleged espionage within the president’s cabinet is in its final phase and that investigative teams are preparing further actions.

He urged all public prosecutors to avoid letting external remarks influence their daily work and decisions.
