Macedonian Constitutional Court lacks majority to rule on paid political advertising law

The Constitutional Court of North Macedonia was unable to secure the five votes required among its seven judges to decide on initiatives submitted by the Levica and Democrats parties. The initiatives challenge several provisions of the Election Law that regulate paid political advertising, alleging discrimination that favours larger parties and restricts media space for smaller groups.

Because the judges fell short of a majority, the cases remain open in the voting phase, leaving the contested articles of the law—such as clauses 75‑ѓ, 76‑д and 78‑а—unresolved. The court also addressed other matters in the same session, including a social‑security case and procedural issues, but no final judgment was issued on the advertising provisions.
