Macedonian Deputy Demands Prosecutor Islam Abazi Resign Over €167 M Mazut Case

Deputy Antonio Milosovski held a press conference demanding the resignation of Islam Abazi, head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (JO GOKK), after the controversial Mazut case – involving alleged criminal activity worth €167 million – was abruptly closed. Milosovski accused Abazi of political interference, suggesting the decision was influenced by figures such as Venco Filipče, Ali Ahmeti and Zoran Zaev, and warned of possible money‑laundering and environmental damage.

He pointed out that a year earlier the prosecution had sought pre‑trial detention for four suspects in the same case, and argued that closing the file without presenting any evidence undermines the rule of law. Milosovski called the action “corruptly political” and urged Abazi to step down immediately, stating that the prosecutor’s office should not become a tool for political patronage.
