Macedonian Film Festival showcases ethnological works in Split

The second edition of the traveling Macedonian Film Festival in Split featured an evening dedicated to the ethnological films of Vera Kličkova. Screenings included ‘Mariovska svadba’, ‘Veligdenski običai’, and ‘Rusaliski običai vo Gevgelija’, which document significant aspects of Macedonian traditional heritage.

Filmologist Damjana Ivanovska Patcheva and producer Tihomir Kashmicovski from the Cinematheque of Macedonia provided introductions, emphasizing the importance of preserving ethnological film as part of the national cinematic and cultural heritage.

The festival program continues with a forum regarding the role of the Cinematheque of Macedonia in protecting film heritage and promoting Macedonian cinematography. Additionally, a session titled ‘Macedonian Oscar Winners’ will feature the short film ‘Dae’ by Stole Popov and the documentary ‘Honeyland’ by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov.

Organized by the Macedonian Cultural Information Center in Zagreb in partnership with the Cinematheque of Macedonia and the Croatian network of independent exhibitors, the festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. To mark 35 years of Macedonian independence, the festival will visit 11 cities across Croatia throughout September and October.
