Macedonian history: Commemorations of WWII massacres and partisan losses
Historical commemorations mark several significant events in Macedonian history occurring on this date.
In 1942, the Bulgarian occupation forces massacred 18 Macedonian patriots in the Dabnica area near Prilep. On September 19, 1942, national hero Rambo Levkov was killed following torture by Bulgarian police.
In 1944, the village of Belica near Gostivar was besieged and burned by Balist forces. The conflict resulted in the deaths of 21 partisans, including national heroes Todor Cipovski and Gjoce Stojchevski, as well as 17 local residents who perished in the fire.
