Macedonian journalist Rami Mislimi faces threats, legal action urged

The Macedonian Journalists' Association (SHGM) condemned serious threats made against journalist Rami Mislimi of the portal “Tetova Sot”. The threats, which also targeted Mislimi’s young son, were allegedly issued by Albi Qamili, the head of the Tetovo municipal council, after Mislimi published a piece and comment relating to Qamili. A second individual, presented as Qamili’s brother, reportedly delivered additional intimidation, telling Mislimi “a camera will not protect you”. SHGM called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Public Prosecutor’s Office to act swiftly and ensure criminal liability for the perpetrators, citing recent amendments that treat attacks on journalists as offenses comparable to those against officials.

SHGM pledged to monitor the case closely and provide Mislimi with necessary legal and professional support, while urging public officials, politicians, and citizens to refrain from hate speech, threats, and pressure on media workers.
