Macedonian parliament turmoil amid government reconstruction

Opposition deputies from SDSM, Levica and the Albanian Alliance left a parliamentary session on the reconstruction of the government after a heated debate. Levica MP Borislav Krmov described the reshuffle as a “political market” aimed at preparing early elections, arguing that the changes serve party‑coalition calculations rather than institutional improvement.

During the same session candidate for minister of local self‑government Ivan Stoilkovic verbally assaulted SDSM deputies Fatmir Bitići and Mitko Trajčuleskĭ, prompting SDSM coordinator Oliver Spasovski to demand an apology from speaker Afirim Gashi and to label the incident “hate speech”. Premier Christian Mikospki later addressed the chamber, apologising to the deputies and the public and urging that such behaviour not recur. The episode has intensified accusations that the governing coalition is using the reconstruction process to consolidate power ahead of potential early elections.
