Macedonian Opposition Blocks New Election Law, Says Bojan Stojanovski

Bojan Stojanovski, MP for VMRO‑DPMNE, said the opposition parties in North Macedonia are not seeking a new election law but are instead staging a blockade. After months of negotiations, the parties withdrew from finalising the draft, preventing its adoption before the July 15 deadline. Stojanovski warned that the government would accept any agreement the opposition reaches, even if it includes provisions for diaspora voting, to meet EU reform commitments. He criticised the opposition for contradicting its stated support for reforms while obstructing the legislation, calling the move hypocritical.

The deadlock threatens the country's progress on its European integration agenda and delays the implementation of a revised electoral framework.
