Macedonian opposition leader Vinko Filipče warns of fiscal crisis and accuses government of election deflection

In interviews on the TV programme “Tema na denot”, SDSM president Vinko Filipče said the Macedonian government is short of €50 million while Montenegro is providing €3.2 billion in grants. He warned that the state is moving toward a serious financial crisis, lacking funds for pensions, wages, social transfers and agricultural subsidies.

Filipče criticised proposed changes to the electoral law, including electronic voting and mail‑in voting for the diaspora, saying they lack any reliable control mechanisms and could be abused. He described the so‑called “Platform” as an attempt to defocus public attention from the government’s “total failure”, citing isolation from Europe, pro‑Russian influences and the country’s mounting budget deficit.

The opposition leader called for unity within SDSM and for a transparent electoral process, arguing that the current government’s actions fragment opposition efforts and risk undermining confidence in future elections scheduled for 2029.
