Macedonian Police to Deploy Fast Drug Tests for Roadway Screening

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVR) in North Macedonia has ordered 10,000 rapid drug‑testing kits to screen drivers suspected of operating vehicles under the influence. The Chinese‑made tests cost 218 denars (about €3.5) each, provide results in three to ten minutes, and claim 99% accuracy for substances such as cocaine, amphetamines, heroin, MDMA and THC.

The procurement is covered by a two‑year framework agreement that caps spending at €80,000. The contract was awarded to VisioMed Trade and Services Ltd., a Skopje‑based firm. Delivery of the kits is expected in the first half of August, after which a small group of police officers will receive training and then pass the knowledge on to other units. Use of the tests will depend on the discretion of individual officers, as no medical pre‑approval is required.
