Macedonian road‑naming protest fuels Albanian‑Macedonian border tension

Arbëria movement leader Bekim Fazliu used social media to question participants in an upcoming protest in Tetovo over the naming of streets, demanding that all road names in the city be changed to Albanian. He criticised the long‑standing BDI government for failing to secure a law allowing local Albanian majorities to approve street names and linked the issue to broader topics such as the Open Balkan project and local infrastructure.

Albanian police chief Skënder Hita later explained that four North Macedonian officials, including a VLEN deputy and a parliamentary group coordinator, attempted to cross the Qafë Thanë border point to join a protest in Tirana. One person was denied entry due to legal obstacles, and the remaining three were turned back to North Macedonia. Hita said this type of border control is routine and not cause for alarm.
