Macedonian Stock Exchange holds 25th Annual Conference in Ohrid
The Macedonian Stock Exchange is hosting its 25th Annual Conference in Ohrid, marking 30 years since its establishment. The event, running until September 23, focuses on capital market development, financing company growth, and the impact of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and new financial technologies.
Ivan Steriev, CEO of the Macedonian Stock Exchange, noted that the total turnover reached approximately 89.8 million euros as of September 15, representing an 8% decrease compared to the same period last year. While classic trading has declined by 27%, block transactions have increased by roughly 159%. Steriev highlighted that the market faces challenges such as a narrow supply of financial instruments and limited new investor inflow.
To address these issues, the exchange is working on a project with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to prepare domestic companies for market financing. Additionally, through the regional Junctus project involving seven other exchanges in Central and Southeast Europe, the exchange aims to launch a regional ETF that includes stocks from the Macedonian market.
