Macedonia's Digital Minister Stefan Andonovski vows environmentally safe data‑center construction

Stefan Andonovski, the minister of digital transformation of North Macedonia, said that the construction of new data centres will not damage the environment. He stated that no trees will be cut and that water and air quality will be protected, arguing that concerns about environmental harm are unfounded.

Andonovski explained that the facilities are planned for technology‑industrial development zones, using existing brownfield sites where factories already operate. Every project will have to pass an environmental impact assessment, and he emphasized that no one objects to the data‑centre builds provided they meet these standards and attract foreign investment.
