Macedonia's Environment Minister Muamet Hoja Announces Regional Waste Management System

Environment Minister Muamet Hoja said a regional waste‑management system is now being established across the country. Equipment for municipalities, including mechanisation and communal gear, has already been delivered, and tenders are being prepared for building regional centres in Rusino, Novaci and an advanced stage centre in Sveti Nikola, with transfer stations planned for all municipalities.

The minister also highlighted the forthcoming Law on Control of Industrial Emissions, which will introduce stricter standards and take effect in September 2027. The ministry is investing in replacing non‑eco heating systems in public buildings and has increased inspections of the industrial sector. A budget rebalance has raised funding for capital environmental projects, including the Skopje water‑treatment plant, underpinning what officials call the "green turn" for the country.
