North Macedonia PM Mickoski expects larger fuel price cut next week

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the government is monitoring fuel markets after recent price hikes and expects a larger reduction in diesel and gasoline prices at the start of August. The Regulatory Commission for Energy had lifted retail fuel prices by an average of 4.55 % earlier in July, raising diesel by 18.5 denars per litre and gasoline by 8.5 denars per litre over the past month.

Global oil prices have stabilised around $85‑86 per barrel, giving the government a basis to adjust excise duties. Excise taxes are reviewed every two weeks, with the next calculation due on 31 July. Mickoski added that if necessary the authorities could consider further measures on excise duties or VAT.

Macedonia currently enjoys the lowest diesel and unleaded‑gasoline prices in the Balkan region and among the lowest in Europe. The new maximum retail price for EuroSuper BS‑95 is set at 93 denars per litre and for EuroSuper BS‑98 at 95 denars per litre.
