Macedonia reports 6.5% rise in industrial output and cuts state and public debt
Prime Minister Christian Micovski said Macedonia’s industrial production grew 6.5 % in June, with a 4 % year‑on‑year increase for the second quarter, according to the State Statistical Office. The same period saw the state debt fall by more than €40 million and the public debt drop by over €20 million, bringing public debt to 58.8 % of GDP (≈€10.7 billion) and state debt to 51.7 % of GDP (≈€9.4 billion). Growth was led by non‑metallic mineral products (+35.6 %), motor‑vehicle output (+15.9 %) and electrical equipment (+3.8 %). Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska‑Kochoska highlighted the servicing of a €700 million Eurobond, with more than €300 million repaid between April and June. Micovski framed the figures as the result of two years of government work and praised them as “good news for citizens”. He also warned livestock and other farmers against inflating production figures to obtain larger subsidies.
