Macedonia's SDSM leader Venco Filipče warns of severe September cost‑of‑living crisis
SDSM president Venco Filipče told a media briefing that Macedonia’s living standards will keep falling and warned that citizens face a harsh September ahead. He said the government has no plan to protect people from rising food, fuel and other living costs and has announced neither wage increases nor price‑freeze measures.
Filipče linked the expected domestic shock to regional developments, citing an extreme drop in Danube water levels that has triggered a crisis in Serbia and forced Hungary to shut part of its nuclear power plants. He also mentioned the uncertain situation in Iran, saying it could further lift fuel prices. The leader added that the administration may cut the syndicate basket without actually controlling prices, which could spur major unrest among the population.
