Macerata Campania farmer reported for illegal waste burning

Carabinieri Forestale officers from Marcianise caught an individual in the act of burning agricultural waste in Macerata Campania, Italy. The farmer was observed feeding flames with cardboard while holding a lighter used to ignite a pile of non-hazardous special waste, including paper, cardboard, plastic channels, and greenhouse films.

The illegal burning occurred on bare soil. Investigators noted that an adjacent area of approximately 400 square meters had recently been burned, an incident that resulted in the total destruction of two vehicles.

The farmer has been reported to the judicial authorities for the illegal combustion of waste, an offense that carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years. Authorities have seized the affected land, the remaining waste, and the lighter used in the incident. Such practices are heavily penalized due to the release of toxic substances like dioxins and furans, which pose significant risks to public health and the environment.
