Macerata councilor proposes free menstrual products in municipal pharmacies
Tommaso Domizi, a Democratic Party city councilor and secretary of the Giovani Democratici, has filed a motion to launch a pilot program distributing free menstrual products through Macerata’s municipal pharmacies. The initiative aims to combat period poverty and ensure equitable access to essential goods.
The proposal suggests utilizing the three municipal pharmacies managed by APM, located in Corso Cavour, Piediripa, and Via Pace. Access would be managed via a card issued by municipal offices to individuals with local ties, such as residents, students, or workers. The administration could also use ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) levels to prioritize distribution based on available resources.
To ensure economic sustainability, the motion does not request unlimited funding but proposes a pre-defined budget to establish maximum quantities per beneficiary. This approach is intended to make the program's spending predictable and verifiable from the outset.
