Macerata mourns three teenagers killed in highway crash
Over 4,000 people attended a funeral ceremony at the Helvia Recina stadium in Macerata for Nicolas Calabrese, Giorgio Franceschini and Daniele Francalancia. The three teenagers died in a severe road accident early Sunday on the highway near the Morrovalle interchange, an area under construction.
The service was attended by local officials—including Mayor Sandro Parcaroli, Regional President Francesco Acquaroli, Under‑Secretary Silvia Luconi and Provincial President Alessandro Gentilucci—as well as priest Carlos Munoz, who led the prayers. Survivor Michele Calcagnini, recently discharged from the regional hospital, was present alongside the families. Mother Betty Calabrese thanked the community for its support. Organisers announced two charitable initiatives: a fundraiser for the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association and a project to build a new football field in Macerata to honor the youths’ love of sport.
