Macerata ranks among Italy's most expensive cities
Macerata has become one of the most expensive cities in Italy, ranking third in a cost-of-living analysis by the Unione Nazionale Consumatori based on Istat data. In August, the city's annual inflation rate reached 4.3%, trailing only Reggio Calabria (4.6%) and Siracusa (4.5%).
This inflation rate significantly exceeds both the national average of 3.3% and the regional average for Marche, which stands at 0.9%. Since January, when inflation was at 1.8%, the rate has increased by 2.5 percentage points. This rise is estimated to cost the average family an additional 938 euros per year.
Key drivers of the price increases include regulated energy (+3%) and non-regulated energy (+2.9%), transport services (+1.3%), and durable goods (+0.5%). Additionally, the cost of food has risen by nearly 30% over the last five years, with notable increases in items such as oil, coffee, tomatoes, and potatoes. The high demand for private healthcare and wellness services also contributes to the rising household expenditures.
