Macerata to begin replacement of historic center elevators

The Municipality of Macerata and APM have announced the start of works to replace the elevators connecting the city to its historic center. The project is scheduled to begin on October 4 and is expected to last approximately six months.

Technical evaluations determined that postponing the intervention until January 2027 was not feasible due to the aging state of the current systems. The existing elevators have reached the end of their technical life, resulting in frequent breakdowns and high maintenance requirements. Officials noted that continuing with maintenance alone would not guarantee service continuity or safety.

The first new elevator is expected to be available as early as February. To mitigate the impact on local businesses and residents, particularly during the Christmas period, the Municipality and APM are developing a package of measures and services to facilitate access to the historic center.
