Machagai Mayor criticizes Chaco government's El Niño preparedness

Juan Manuel “Juanchi” García, the Mayor of Machagai, has criticized the Chaco provincial government for prioritizing social media appearances over substantive preparation for the El Niño phenomenon. García claims that while Governor Leandro Zdero and officials use videos to project an image of management, actual infrastructure works have been paralyzed.

The Mayor highlighted significant flaws in the province's ability to manage a potential water emergency. He noted that reliable precipitation data is lacking, as rainfall records are currently being handled by police stations rather than the Provincial Water Administration. This has led to inaccuracies, such as reporting zero millimeters of rain during heavy downpours due to broken equipment.

García also criticized the lack of transparency in government communications, noting that recent meetings with mayors were held behind closed doors without press access. To address local needs, the municipality of Machagai has invested approximately thirty million pesos to purchase its own digital rain gauge.
