Machala hosts XI Ecuadorian Digestive Diseases Week 2026

The XI Ecuadorian Digestive Diseases Week 2026 has commenced in Machala, Ecuador, running from August 27 to 29. Organized by the El Oro Chapter of the Ecuadorian Society of Gastroenterology, the scientific event is being held at the Hotel Oro Verde.

The program features 71 speakers, including 11 international experts, covering eight thematic modules. The academic agenda includes 69 keynote lectures, therapeutic endoscopy workshops, clinical case presentations, and live transmissions of procedures from the IESS Hospital in Machala. The event aims to provide continuous medical education and update knowledge for gastroenterologists, hepatologists, endoscopists, internists, geriatricians, and general practitioners.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Monserrat Largacha Barreiro, national president of the society, emphasized the importance of scientific updating and knowledge exchange. Several professionals received recognition for their contributions, including Dr. Eduardo Marriot Díaz, who was honored as a pioneer of digestive endoscopy in Ecuador.
