Machiavelli's Mandragola to be performed at Vibo Valentia's Teatro Comunale

Niccolò Machiavelli's renowned Renaissance comedy, “Mandragola,” is scheduled to be performed at the Teatro Comunale in Vibo Valentia on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Produced by the Centro Teatrale Meridionale, the production features an adaptation and direction by Nicasio Anzelmo.

Domenico Pantano will star in the lead role and also serves as the director of the Centro Teatrale Meridionale. The cast includes Antonio Bandiera, Alessandro D’Ambrosi, Laura Garofoli, Nicola Giacalone, Alessandro Giova, and Mimma Mercurio. The one-act play, lasting approximately 100 minutes, has previously been presented in various Italian cities.

The play serves as a satire of 16th-century society, addressing themes of corruption, hypocrisy, and shifting moral values. Set against the historical backdrop of 1518, the narrative explores the tensions of the era, including the religious shifts following Martin Luther and the political influence of the Medici papacy.
