Machiavelli's political philosophy discussed at Urbino festival
During the fourteenth edition of the Festival del Giornalismo Culturale, Nicoletta Marcelli, a professor of Philology at the University of Urbino, discussed the enduring relevance of Niccolò Machiavelli’s political thought.
Marcelli addressed common misconceptions regarding the Renaissance philosopher, specifically the misinterpretation of the phrase “the end justifies the means.” She argued that Machiavelli’s work is often manipulated to serve specific political agendas, such as those of Ugo Foscolo or Benito Mussolini. Instead, she described Machiavelli as a pragmatic thinker who believed that political strategy and action must adapt to changing times and circumstances to improve the relationship between the State and its citizens.
