Machu Picchu to close Puente Inca route for emergency repairs
The Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura (DDC) of Cusco has announced the temporary closure of Route 1-D within the Machu Picchu archaeological site from September 20 to September 25. The closure affects the Puente Inca sector, located in the eastern part of the citadel.
The measure is a preventive action to allow specialized personnel to perform emergency structural repairs on unstable archaeological elements, specifically a pre-Hispanic wall segment and an unstable path platform. These works aim to preserve the Inca remains and ensure visitor safety.
Visitors holding tickets specifically for Ruta 1-D of Circuito 1 will be automatically redirected to Ruta 1-C, the Portada Intipunku route leading to the Sun Gate. All other routes within the site will remain open. The scheduled dates may be subject to change depending on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances during the intervention.
