Peru will mark the Day of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu on 7 July with a push to improve tourism operations at the iconic Inca citadel. Officials intend to hold urgent debates on transport logistics and ticket‑allocation systems after visitation fell 14 % compared with 2019, with 265,336 arrivals recorded at the start of the year.

The site is operating at 93 % of its permitted capacity, but a rigid physical‑ticket quota of 1,000 daily tickets creates long queues and prevents travelers from rebooking missed slots.
