Maciá to host International Congress of Addictions

The city of Maciá will host the International Congress of Addictions from October 7 to 9. Organized by the Red Grupo Institucional de Adicciones (GIA), the 2026 edition will feature an international scope for the first time, including videoconferences with experts from Spain, Uruguay, and Colombia.

The Chamber of Deputies of Entre Ríos has declared the event of legislative interest. The program covers a wide range of topics, including problematic substance use, youth suicide, vaping, mental health, and techno-addictions. Additionally, the congress will address behavioral addictions such as online gaming, problematic screen use, and the consumption of energy drinks and nicotine pouches.

Congress president Nicolás Segovia noted that the event aims to provide evidence-based information to both health professionals and the general community. The Red GIA, which has operated since late 2016, focuses on interdisciplinary prevention and awareness through health, education, and local government collaboration.
