Maciej Rybus joins Pelikan Łowicz on minimum wage contract

Former Polish national team defender Maciej Rybus has signed a one-year contract with Pelikan Łowicz, the third-division club where he began his career. Reports indicate that the 37-year-old is accepting the minimum possible salary allowed for a professional contract in Poland, which is approximately 500 PLN net per month.

Rybus, who has previously played for major clubs such as Legia Warsaw, Olympique Lyon, and Rubin Kazan, had been without a professional club since leaving Russia in 2024. Despite receiving interest from clubs in the Polish I liga that could have offered significantly higher wages, he chose to return to his hometown club to support them.

His decision to remain in Russia following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine drew significant criticism and effectively ended his career with the Polish national team, for which he earned 66 caps.
