Maciej Sobieszczański announces historical drama ‘Przez ścianę’

Director Maciej Sobieszczański has announced his new film, ‘Przez ścianę’ (Through the Wall), a historical drama based on a true story from 1947. The film follows Wiesława Pajdak and Jerzy Śmiechowski, two 27-year-olds imprisoned in a communist prison on Rakowiecka. The pair falls in love after communicating through a wall using Morse code. After six years of separation, they marry within the prison and subsequently spend 55 years together following their release.

The production features a prominent Polish cast, starring Maria Dębska and Jakub Gierszał, alongside Arkadiusz Jakubik, Agnieszka Grochowska, and Dorota Segda. The film is shot in a black-and-white aesthetic, with cinematography by Jolanta Dylewska.

‘Przez ścianę’ is scheduled for a festival premiere at the 51st Gdynia Film Festival in September 2026, with a general theatrical release expected in the first quarter of 2027.
