Maciej Wyderka sets new 800m meeting record at Janusz Kusociński Memorial

At the 72nd Janusz Kusociński Memorial held at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Maciej Wyderka set a new personal best and meeting record in the 800m race with a time of 1:43.65. This performance broke the long-standing meeting record of 1:43.66 set in 1977 by Olympic champion Alberto Juantoreny.

Wyderka’s run brought him within striking distance of the Polish national record of 1:43.22 held by Paweł Czapiewski. Despite a strong surge after the 600m mark, Wyderka narrowly missed the national record due to a loss of momentum in the final meters.

Other notable results from the event included Romell Glave of Great Britain winning the 100m in 9.97 seconds, setting a new meeting record. In the women’s 800m, Croatia’s Nina Vukovic took first place with a time of 2:00.92, followed by Poland’s Anna Wielgosz.
